Farmer in police grip for cultivating Indian hemp

Kyerekrom (Ash), June 23, GNA- The police at Juaso have arrested Abubakar Mahama, a 28-year-old farmer, for cultivating a plant suspected to be Indian hemp at Kyerekrom near Saabo in the Asante-Akim South district in the Ashanti Region.

Superintendent Francis Oppong, Juaso District Police Commander, told the press that following a tip-off, a combined team of police personnel from Juaso and Obogu arrested the suspect, who lived nearby the Indian Hemp farm that was inter cropped with okro and pepper. He said the police sent a quantity of the plant to the District Police Headquarters but when they returned to the farm later, they realised that the remaining plant had been uprooted and the wife of suspect was no where to be found.

Superintendent Oppong said the police would continue to clamp down on criminals and called on the public to volunteer information to assist the police in their work.
