Aflao, March 21, GNA – A farmer who allegedly succeeded in inserting his finger into the private part of his 18-year-old daughter when he tried to have sex with her, on Tuesday appeared before a circuit court at Aflao. Harley Evedzi Banini, 42, from Anloga in the Keta District, pleaded guilty to assault but not guilty to a charge of indecent assault. The Court presided over by Group-Captain (Rtd.) Martin Obeng-Ntim, convicted Banini on his own plea on the first charge and remanded him in Police custody to be brought before the court again on March 30.

Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Kanyivi-Tayko told the court that the accused separated with the victim’s mother and took custody of her some years ago. He said as the daughter developed, Banini would beat her up if he found any man making advances at her. Chief Inspector Kanyivi-Tayko said on different occasions in January and February, this year, Banini had been infuriated by her daughters association with boys, dragged her into his room beat her and attempted without success to have sex with her.

He said Banini was, however, successful in inserting his finger into her private part. Chief Inspector Kanyivi-Tayko said Banini repeated the act on March 1, this year following which the daughter reported the matter to the Police.
