Farmer granted bail for abetment of crime

Mankranso (Ash), June 2, GNA – The Mankranso magistrate’s court has granted bail in the sum of 10 million cedis each with a surety to a farmer and her two labourers for abetment of crime, conspiracy and causing damage. Ama Donkor and her two labourers, Kwabena Dagarti and Kofi Dagarti, all based in Abesewa in the Ahafo-Ano South district, pleaded guilty to the charges and will re-appear on June 20. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Abraham Agyei-Mensah told the court, presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie, that on April 27, this year, Akua Dankwa engaged the two labourers to clear a portion of land at Abugya village, which had been a subject of counter ownership claims between her and one Stella Turkson, the complainant. Inspector Agyei-Mensah told the court that while clearing the land, the labourers destroyed 21 seedlings of orange and burnt them. The complainant reported the case to the police and during investigation, it was discovered that Ama Dankwa had cultivated the remaining portion of the land into maize and plantain farms. The three were arrested and charged with the offence. The court ordered the police to ascertain the real cost of the items destroyed. 02 June 06
