Farmer gets seven years for deceit and child trafficking

Takoradi, Nov 19, GNA – A Takoradi Circuit Court on Friday sentenced Jones Acquah, a 23year old farmer, to seven years imprisonment in hard labour for deceit and trafficking of a 19 year-old girl from Dawranpong in the central region to Takoradi.

The convict pleaded guilty. The case of the prosecution was that at about 0930 hours on October 26 this year, the convict who is also known as Paa Kwesi, and farms at Angye near Axim approached the victim at her school at Dawranpong and convinced her into believing that she had been bewitched by people at home and school. She said the convict told the victim not to disobey any order from him and took her to his house where she changed from her school uniform into a new dress.

The prosecution said the convict together with the victim then boarded a car to Takoradi.

She said on arrival at Takoradi, the convict took the victim to “Top 10” area in Takoradi where he asked her to wait for him whiles he goes to buy handkerchief and other items for the ritual. The prosecution told the court that two witnesses who were standing by saw how apprehensive the victim was and queried her. The victim then told them her story leading to the report of the matter to the office of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service at Takoradi and the convict’s prosecution.
