Farmer fined one million cedis for stealing a sheep

Nyinahin (Ash), Dec. 5, GNA – A Nyinahin Magistrate court presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah has fined a 35-year-old farmer Osei Kwabena one million cedis on his own plea for stealing a sheep valued at 300,000 cedis.

The accused would in default serve a year’s imprisonment. The court also ordered the accused to pay 300,000 cedis as compensation to the complainant, Mr Isaac Ampiah. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector George Letsah told the court that on September 8, this year, the complainant, living at Anansu near Nyinahin detected that one of his sheep was missing from the pen. He said the complainant suspected the accused and therefore, rushed to his house and found the accused ready to enjoy a meal from the stolen sheep.

The prosecutor said the complainant seized the pot containing the cooked mutton and handed the accused to the town’s unit committee, which later sent him to the Nyinahin police and after investigations charged with the offence. 05 Dec.05
