Farmer fined GHc180 cedis for ‘Galamsey’

Tarkwa, July 23, GNA – A Tarkwa Circuit Court has fined Kwaku Quansah, a 30 year-old farmer GHc180 for illegal mining. He pleaded guilty.

Police Prosecutor Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo, that the complainants are security officers of Goldfields Ghana Limited while the accused resided at Tokunaso near Tarkwa.

Inspector Amponsah said on June 16, at about 1230 hours, the complainants were on their usual patrol duty on the company’s concession when they spotted the accused person within the restricted area near the Akontasi Ridge Pit.

He was arrested and handed over to the Police.
