Nkawie (Ash), Oct. 28, GNA – A circuit court at Nkawie on Thursday fined Thomas Tuffour, a 31-year-old farmer, five million cedis for stealing two pigs valued at 500,000 cedis. He pleaded guilty to the charge and will serve 12 months prison term in default.
The court ordered Tuffour to pay 500,000 cedis, which is the value of the two pigs to Mr Kwaku Agyapong, the owner. Police Chief Inspector Archibald Fando told the court presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that the complainant, Mr Agyapong reared pigs at Adankwame in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District of Ashanti. He said the accused was once a pig farmer but that his farm had collapsed.
Chief Inspector Fando said on October 24, this year, when the complainant went to his pigpen, he detected that two of his pigs were missing.
The prosecution said a week later, Tuffour was seen selling pork at Tanoso and so he was arrested and handed over to the police and during interrogation he admitted having stolen one pig and not two. He said a search was conducted in his room during which leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found and that he would face a charge of possessing Indian hemp on November 9.
