Farmer calls for stable foodstuff prices

Nkoranza (B/A), Aug. 28, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Adjei-Boateng, a 43-year-old farmer at Nkoranza has called for stable prices for foodstuffs.

He told Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Nkoranza that the absence of stable prices for food crops was an age-old problem for farmers.

The problem has made farmers to remain poor, unable to manage themselves and their families. Mr Adjei-Boateng expressed grave concern about the lack of storage facilities for food crops that made large quantities of produce to go waste.

He appealed to the government to provide storage facilities and to help farmers to get markets for their produce, lack of which had rendered most of them incapable of paying back loans granted by banks. Mr Adjei-Boateng advised his colleagues to unite to be able to present their grievances to the government for redress.

In a related development, Mr Stephen Kwadwo Adjei, Manager of Progressive Farms at Jerusalem in the Nkoranza District, said he could not find buyers for the cassava on his 25 hectares farm. Mr Adjei, Brong-Ahafo Regional Best Farmer in 1994, told the GNA at

Nkoranza that if he did not harvest the produce in time, they would rot. He appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to send tractors to Nkoranza District to assist farmers to harvest the abundant cassava. 28 Aug. 03
