The Mpraeso Circuit Court has remanded a forty-seven-year-old farmer, George Kwame Ofosu, a resident of Kwahu Akwaboah near Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern region, for allegedly butchering his wife who threatened to divorce him.
The couple who had married for a number of years with five kids were said to have lived happily until the wife, Dorothy Afua Obiri, threatened to end the marriage and relocated from Akaboah village to a nearby town called Danteng.
According to close relations, Ofosu pleaded with the wife through a number of prominent people in the area to rescind her decision, but she did not agree and remained in her new abode.
Angered by the wife’s behaviour, Ofosu in the early hours of Sunday, May 26, 2013, went to Danteng and attacked the wife with a cutlass, cut off her two wrists and inflicted several wounds on her.
After the act, Ofosu fled to the bush but was arrested by a search party the next day and handed over to the police.
The victim who was rushed to the Nkawkaw Holy Family hospital died a few minutes on arrival.
Ofosu, who is on remand at the Nkawkaw Central Police station, is said to be pleading with the police to shoot him dead, since according to him, he had done the unthinkable.
He is to re-appear in court on June 28, 2013.
