Farmer appears before court for stealing

Sekondi, Dec. 27, GNA – Peter Nyame, a 22-year-old farmer of Agona-Nkwanta near Takoradi, last Friday appeared before a Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a tape recorder. The accused, popularly known as Frenchman pleaded not guilty to stealing and was remanded in prison custody to re-appear on January 10, 2005.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Alex Cosmos said on December 1, this year, Nyame broke into the room of Adwoa Mansa, a trader at Agona-Nkwanta and stole a tape recorder and other personal belongings, while she was fast asleep.

He said the next day, Mansa informed some truck pushers at the Agona-Nkwanta market of the theft.

Inspector Cosmos said two days later, a truck pusher saw the accused offering the tape recorder for sale at the market and reported the matter to the trader.

He said Mansa and others later discovered the tape recorder at the house of the accused.

Inspector Cosmos said a report was made to the Police and the accused was arrested but claimed the recorder was his property.
