Farmer, 32, sentenced to death for murder

Ho, Aug. 7, GNA- David Kwame Anyomi, 32, a farmer at Have-Atsiame in the Kpando District was on Wednesday sentenced to death by hanging by a High Court at Ho for causing the death of his cousin, Kwasi Gidi Anyomi.

David pleaded not guilty but a seven-member jury unanimously returned a verdict of guilty on him.

Miss Patience Klingo, Chief State Attorney, told the court presided over by Mr Justice Richard Apaloo, that on February 28, 1995, without any provocation, David chased the deceased with a cutlass and inflicted deep cuts on his neck and cheek and bolted.

She said the deceased became unconscious and was rushed to the Margaret Marquart Hospital at Kpando and later referred to the Volta Regional Hospital at Ho where he died.

Mr Justice Apaloo said the accused person was found guilty but since he was insane, he would be taken to the Psychiatry Hospital in Accra as a criminal lunatic.

He directed the Registrar of the court to process the accused person’s documents to be forwarded to the Judicial Secretary and the Ministry for the Interior in conformity with the law.
