Farm labourer jailed for indecent assault on seven-year girl

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Sept. 11, GNA- Dormaa-Ahenkro Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced John Baptist, alias Kasama, a 30-year-old farm labourer at Adiembra, near Nkrankwanta in Dormaa District to five years’ imprisonment in hard labour, for indecently assaulting a seven-year old girl.

Passing sentence, Justice Philip Bright Mensah expressed disgust about the increasing spate of rape and defilement cases and said the sentence will would serve as a deterrent.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector J.A. Salam, said on August 16 this year, the accused went to the house of the victim and invited her to his home, where he put her on his laps and inserted his fingers into her vagina.

He warned her not to tell anybody and promised to give her three thousand cedis.

The girl told her mother what the accused did to her and a report was made to the local unit committee.
