Begoro, Sept. 3, GNA – Participants at a Ghana Accountability Improves Trust(GAIT II) forum sponsored by USAID at Begoro, have observed that, the lack of accommodation in the rural communities are the reasons why teachers do not accept postings to those areas. As a result, most rural schools are staffed with untrained teachers while others are even understaffed. The participants were worried that despite the successes chalked by the GAIT project in the beneficiary communities, the major problem facing schools was understaffing.
They were however happy that the GAIT project has strengthened school-community relations.
The participants appealed to the government and NGOs to provide suitable accommodation for teachers in rural schools to enhance effective teaching and learning. The Fanteakwa District Coordinator of GAIT II project, Mr Julius Azumah, asked parents to take keen interest in the education of their children.
The Presiding Member for the Fanteakwa District Assembly, Mr Ntori Agyabeng, urged parents to send their JSS graduates to higher institutions of learning to enable them to become responsible citizens.
