Fanteakwa pupils receive relief package

Ahomahomasu (E/R), March 12, GNA- The Fanteakwa District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has distributed educational materials to 100 needy pupils to motivate them to stay in school and learn.

The items included school bags, pens, pencils, exercise books and erasers.

Mr J.N. Adjabeng, an Assistant Director of Education for Fanteakwa, said the gesture was a move by the GES to subsidize the needs of needy parents.

He called on parents to stop spending lavishly on funerals at the expense of the education of their children and expressed concern at the reluctance of some parents to provide basic educational materials for their children.

Mr Adjabeng appealed to the GES to enact a law to prosecute parents who refuse to send their children of school-going age to school by the end of next year when the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (CUBE) ends.
