Feyiase (E/R), Nov. 6, GNA – The Fanteakwa constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) unanimously re-elected a nine- member executive at a delegates conference at Feyiase, Begoro, on Saturday, for a four-year term.
The executive members are Mr Christopher Narh, chairman, Mr H.N. Okantar, first vice chairman, Mr W.K. Siame, second vice chairman and Mr Foster Owusu, secretary.
The rest are Mr Adu Gyamfi, deputy secretary, Mr Joseph Nartey, organizer, Mr William Ayim-Aboagye, treasurer, Joseph Osafo, Youth Organizer and Miss Martha Amaning, Women’s Organizer. Speaking at the function, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Organizer of the party, urged supporters to be steadfast in their support and not to be disheartened by provocations from supporters of the ruling NPP government.
According to him, there were clear evidence that the NPP rigged the 2004 elections in the constituency since “out of 182 polling stations, NDC won from 120 stations against 62 for NPP.” He said the constituency executive of the NDC intentionally declined to challenge the results because of violence and the alleged attempt on his life on the eve of the election. Mr Ampofo asked all branch executives to work closely with the constituency executive and mount house-to-house campaign to win more souls for the party.
He said the NDC still stood by its policy of relieving the plight of the destitute “as against the NPP policy of property owning at the expense of the poor.”
The Regional Organizer of the party, Mr Tawiah Boateng, asked the supporters not to be discouraged by media pronouncements, saying that “they are all political ploy to relegate the NDC party to the background.”
He said the Fanteakwa constituency was the largest in the region and for that matter it would be demarcated into two when the party came to power in 2008.
He asked them to support the party financially since it was not the preserve of any single individual. Mr Narh thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in them by retaining them.
He appealed to the supporters of the party to assist them work relentlessly to recapture the seat from NPP in 2008.
