Fanteakwa Assembly spends 103 million cedis on Teacher-Trainees

Begoro (E/R), Jan. 20 GNA – The Fanteakwa District Assembly has spent 123 million cedis to sponsor 206 teacher-trainees during the past three years.
Addressing the third Peoples’ Assembly at Begoro on Friday, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar, District Chief Executive, said 44 teachers were sponsored in 2001, 51 in 2002 and 111 in 2003 in various teachers training colleges at the cost of 500,000 cedis per student. He said on completion of their training, the assembly would grant each teacher soft loans of 400,000 cedis to cushion them until they receive their salaries.
Mr. Ceasar, who was answering a question on the scarcity of trained teachers in the area, was optimistic that the sponsorship package would help solve shortage of teacher syndrome in a few years time to help raise the standard of education in the district.
He said lack of telecommunication system was retarding the speedy flow of information in the district and urged the Ghana Telecom to expedite action to connect the district to the national network.
