Family of Late Highlife Icon Dada KD Opens Up Following His Passing

Veteran Ghanaian highlife artiste Nana Kwaku Duah, known in showbiz circles as Dada KD, has died at the age of 56. The celebrated musician passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025, after a brief illness.

In the wake of his passing, members of his family have spoken publicly for the first time, offering rare insights into his life, relationships, and career during an interview with GH Page TV.

According to the family, despite losing contact with Dada KD in recent years, he remained a humble and respectful man who cherished his roots. Shockingly, they revealed that they learned of his death through a neighbour rather than directly from close associates.

One relative recalled his early days in Ashtown, a suburb of Kumasi, and highlighted how Dada KD’s musical journey took off under the mentorship of highlife legend Daddy Lumba. “Daddy Lumba was the one who discovered KD and brought him into the limelight,” the family member said.

The family also addressed long-standing rumours surrounding Dada KD’s relationship with Cecilia Yaa Sarfoa, the woman who would later become the mother of two of his children. Some reports over the years had claimed Cecilia was once romantically involved with Daddy Lumba and that Dada KD “took her” from him.

However, the family denied these claims, explaining, “KD had no idea that there was any romantic relationship between Cecilia and Daddy Lumba. As far as he knew, Lumba introduced Cecilia as his sister.”

They also made several assertions about Daddy Lumba’s alleged past feuds with other musicians, but did not delve deeply into specifics.

Adding to the complexity of the late singer’s personal life, the family disclosed that Dada KD had fathered a child with another woman before meeting Cecilia. Initially, he denied paternity, but he later acknowledged the child and accepted responsibility.

As fans continue to pay tribute to Dada KD for his contributions to Ghana’s highlife music scene, these revelations from his family have added new context to the life of the man behind the music.
