Family Link Foundation rehabilitates over 200 drug addicts

Kumasi, May 20, GNA – Family Link Foundation (FLF), an NGO, focusing on the rehabilitation and vocational skill training for the socially disadvantaged, has successfully rehabilitated 200 drug addicts and alcoholics and integrated them into the society.

Madam Lydia Abena Galevo, the Director of the Organization, said the people are now engaged in batik, tie and dye making and other trades. The NGO located at Kwadaso in Kumasi, has been visiting ghettos and places known to be the operational base for drug addicts to provide them with counseling. Additionally, it has been offering shelter, clothing and medication for the neglected.

Madam Galevo, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said their goal was to help the addicts out of their situation and to draw attention to the dangers of narcotic drugs abuse. This was why they have been going to schools and churches to educate the youth to stay away from drugs, tobacco and alcohol. She said their main challenge had to do with inadequate funding and accommodation for the addicts and appealed for support.

Mr Felix Nii Bortey, who got hooked to hard drugs as a result of the separation of his parents, urged couples to protect their marriages in the interest of their children. He said they should spend more quality time with their children and show parental love to them.
