Family accuse Ivorian Security Officials of murder

The Ametefee Family of Afife in the Volta Region has petitioned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to investigate the alleged murder of their relative while going through immigration proceedings at the Ghana – Cote d’Ivoire border at Dadieso.

They want investigations into the matter and the culprits be brought to book, while adequate compensation is paid to the bereaved family.

Dodzi Ametefee, 50, a Ghanaian Cocoa farmer in la Cote d’Ivoire and native of Afife, was allegedly murdered my some Ivorian security officials at the Ghana-Cote d’Ivoire border.

Madam Adogo Gasu Ametefee, mother of the deceased, was also said to have collapsed and died at Afife upon hearing the demise of her son.

The deceased was said to have been strangulated by the security officials at the Dadieso border in the Western Region on July 23, for his inability to pay monies demanded by the officials.

Mr Henry Ametefee, Head of the deceased’s family who briefed the media, in Ho, on the incident said the deceased after crossing the border at Dadieso into Cote D’Ivoire was said to have been asked by Ivorian security officers to pay 1000 CFA.

He said the deceased’s explanation that he was resident in Cote d’Ivoire and had just crossed into Ghana to mill corn was not taken and was subjected to a rough body search, during which he got strangulated.

Mr Ametefee said Ghanaians living along the border informed the family about the incident and complained about the frequency of such occurrences because Ghanaian security officials were far away from the border.

He said a family delegation from Afife visited the community and deposited the body of the deceased at the Enchi Hospital morgue after a report was made to the Police at Dadieso.
