Dr. Ronald Sowah, Western Regional HIV and AIDS Coordinator, has advised families to avoid using the same enema syringe because that could contribute to the spread of HIV and AIDS.
He also said the sale of herbal preparations at public places of convenience using one enema syringe to serve customers could affect efforts at preventing the spread of the disease.
Dr. Sowah said this at a sensitization forum for youth in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis, at Takoradi on Monday, organised by Youth Challenge International, anon-governmental organisation and the Young Women Christian Association.
He reminded the public that HIV and AIDS could be spread through unprotected sex, mother to child transmission, infected blood and the use of infected sharp blades.
Dr. Sowah debunked the claim by some people that some pastors and herbalists could cure the disease, and said that some infected people die partly because they do not go to hospital, but visit pastors and herbalists for cure.
He said HIV and AIDS could only be managed since no known cure has been found to the disease.
