Falling tree kills illegal chainsaw operator in Central region

A 33-year-old illegal Chain saw operator at Assin Nyamebekyere Akodaayemobo in the Assin North Municipality in Central Region known as Uncle Joe, met his untimely death on Sunday whilst stealing trees belonging to the government.

The deceased together with two of his colleagues Ali and Abu were felling trees from government reserved forest in the area when a falling tree accidentally hit him killing him in the process.

Activities of illegal chain saw operators are said to be very high in the area that hosts thick forests that have variety of species of trees sought after by the chain saw operators.

The police are currently investigating circumstances that led to the death of the victim while his body has been deposited at the mortuary pending autopsy.
