Fake soldiers arrested for assaulting residents in the Central region

Two men who posed as soldiers are in the grips of the Kasoa Divisional Police Command after assaulting and threatening residents in Gomoa Ojobi in the Central region.

The two suspects are part of five persons held by the police in Kasoa for unleashing terror on residents as a result of a land dispute in the area.

Speaking in an interview with Starr News’ Central regional Correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour, the district police commander for Kosoa ACP Dennis Akob-Deb explained that the dispute is between one Madam Brakuaa, whose bidding was being done by the suspects, and her son Kow Egyiri.

He explained that the dispute had been adjudicated by the Agona Swedru High Court as Madam Brakuaa was found guilty but the woman did not take kindly to the verdict thereby resorting to thugs to intimidate occupants of the disputed land.

He added that the woman’s children including the self-styled “Lance Corporal” Rydbeck Afrifa even went ahead to forcefully eject the residents from residing on the land.

According to the Kasoa police district Commander, Afrifa who has been posing as a ‘Lance Corporal’ and his friend who also posed as “Assistant Commander II” Asante Prince, on May 9 assaulted a number of residents and some potential customers, who have an interest in buying parts of the land.

The two self-styled soldiers according to the police on Saturday, May 20, again proceeded to beat up one Samuel Kwadwo Osei who owns a parcel of the disputed land at a village known as Eduafukwa.

He stated that luck, however, eluded the culprits as they were arrested by the police.

ACP Dennis Akob-Deb indicated that military identification exercise conducted by officers from Burma Camp proved that the two, both 27, are not military officers.

They are therefore in police custody and will be arraigned before court Tuesday.
