Fake ECG staff nabbed by Awutu-Breku police

The Awutu-Breku police in the Central Region have arrested two persons who presented themselves as officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The two, Kwesi Ettah , 42 and Joe Jako , 22 have been accused of extorting money from their victims under the guise providing them with prepaid meters threatening to disconnect those who refuse to adhere to their demand.

The suspects, according to the police mostly hide behind announcements by ECG of intended disconnection in such areas to infiltrate their ranks to perpetrate such crimes.

They are said to have threatened to remove the meters of residents who refused to pay the accumulated bills to them.

The two have succeeded in collecting thousands of Ghana cedis from the area as bills for electricity consumed taking advantage of the fact that majority of homes in the area are yet to be fixed with prepaid meters.

The district commander for the area ASP Shadrack Amfo who confirmed the incident, said the two will soon be arraigned before court.
