Fake dollars intercepted by CEPS

Personnel of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at the Dabala check point last Friday intercepted 478,200 fake dollars in 100 dollar denominations concealed in a bag on board a saloon car traveling from Nigeria to Accra-Ghana.

Emmanuel Daizey, 26, the Ghanaian driver is in police custody at Aflao assisting the police in investigations.

Ben Berkley, Aflao Sector Commander of the Customs Division of the GRA said the Nigerian registered BMW saloon car, AGL 178 AZ, at around 0840 hours, pulled up at the checkpoint and during normal routine checks, personnel found three parcels in a bag.

He said when the parcels were opened, they discovered the currency notes.

Mr Berkley said when the authenticity of the dollars was checked at the Aflao branch of ECOBANK, they were found to be fakes.

He said Daizey told them that the bag in which the currency notes were found was given to him by someone in Nigeria to be taken to Accra for collection and that he (Daizey) did not know the contents of the bag and the identity of that man.
