FAITH CONNECT AT OBRACHIRE

Interfaith – Ghana, a Non Governmental Organisation seeking to bridge the differential gaps between gender and religion, on 18th June, 2011 organised leadership training for the youth of Obrachire.

The programme dubbed “Community Interfaith Leadership Training/ Capacity Building” would run in eight modules from the month of June to September 2011 in a fortnight sequence for the youth in the community.

This was done in collaboration with Unity Progressive Youth Club (UPYC), a local inspirational youth movement with the aim of promoting unity and education of the youth in the community.

Obrachire lies along the Swedru/Bawjiase road in the Central Region of Ghana. Most of the people over there are subsistent farmers and engage in ‘gary’ production though they lack the technical capability to go on a mass production.

The youth, who mainly are students combining education and working on farms, were grateful to Interfaith – Ghana for such a memorable contribution to the development of their community.

Speaking on behalf of Interfaith –Ghana, Mr. Gideon Commey accentuated the need to resuscitate the spirit of leadership in the youth in less endowed communities. “Obrachire and Interfaith – Ghana have travelled a long journey together. This has interested Interfaith – Ghana to come back to Obrachire to share and inspire the youth to take on the mantle of functional leadership while preparing the way for positional leadership in the future”, he said.

Interfaith – Ghana presented clothes worth GH¢ 500 last year to the needy in the community. The children were taken through an educational programme involving colouring pictures and reading. They were presented with books to work with.

The youth, aged 13 to 35 on the average shared their experience with members of Interfaith – Ghana.

The leader of UPYC, Mr. Obo Gamel thanked Interfaith – Ghana for their partnership with the club. He said; “we have learnt a lot about leadership, of what should be done and what we can do”.
