Berekum Chelsea sealed their place in the Round of 32 of the MTN FA Cup with a hard-fought 2–1 win over lower-tier side Debibi United on Thursday.
The Premier League outfit, still smarting from a 3–1 defeat to Aduana FC in their last league match, travelled to Debibi in search of a response and found it through the brilliance of forward Faisal Shaibu.
Chelsea took control of the tie midway through the first half when Shaibu struck a superb opener in the 25th minute. The attacker doubled his tally 15 minutes later, latching onto a loose ball and firing home to give the visitors a commanding 2–0 advantage at the break.
Debibi United battled bravely after the restart and were rewarded with a consolation goal, but Chelsea held firm to protect their lead and secure qualification.
The victory sees Berekum Chelsea join other Premier League sides including Aduana FC, Nations FC and FC Samartex in the next round of Ghana’s oldest cup competition.
The Blues will now look to build on the momentum as they shift focus back to their league campaign.
