Fair Trade Producers society presents materials to school

Bolgatanga, Dec 22, GNA – Fair Trade Producers Society (FTPS), operators of an educational fund for basket weavers’ children in the Bolgatanga, presented education materials worth 23.1 million cedis to children in Bolgatanga at the weekend.

The society, since its formation in 1999, has been paying school fees, providing textbooks and uniforms to primary pupils and students from the Junior Secondary Schools to tertiary institutions from the Bolgatanga District.

In a speech read for the Chief Executive of FTPS, Madam Rosemary Boos at the presentation ceremony, she said the society planned to sponsor 48 pupils this academic year but because of the poor performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) it could get only 40 eligible students.

Madam Boos said the society had chosen education as a means of breaking the cycle of poverty among the families of basket producers and developing a deeper relationship with the weavers.

She congratulated the recipients and urged them to put the materials into good use to enable them to climb high on the academic ladder.

Mr David Anarigede, who represented the District Director of Education at the ceremony, pledged that the Ghana Education Service would supervise the academic performance of children to enable them to achieve their goals.
