Ghana’s Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, says the Black Queens’ upcoming international friendly against England’s Lionesses will serve as an important test ahead of next Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The national women’s team will face the reigning European champions on 2 December, a fixture Adams believes offers invaluable exposure as Ghana prepares for continental competition.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Adams described the high-profile clash as a welcome challenge.
“Our next assignment is at the African level, next year’s WAFCON, but coming up against the world giants is good because it will prepare them even better. It is a good game,” he said.
The match forms part of Ghana’s broader efforts to restore the Black Queens to the top tier of African women’s football. Under head coach Kim Lars, the team has shown renewed intensity, securing key qualification victories and rebuilding confidence after several years of inconsistency.
Playing England, one of the world’s most dominant women’s teams is expected to provide a benchmark for the Queens’ progress, while also giving the players exposure to a faster, more physical, and highly tactical brand of football.
The friendly comes at a crucial moment as Ghana intensifies preparations for WAFCON.
For Adams, the message is clear: tough opponents now will make a tougher Ghana later.
