Eye screening exercise for four communities

Asamang-Tamfoe(E/R), July 23, GNA – More than 200 people from four communities around Anyinam in the East Akyem District, had their eye screened and treated by the staff of the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital on Tuesday.

The people of Akim Mampong, Asamang-Tamfoe, Ankaase and Moseaso had their eyes screened for river blindness and other diseases during the exercise at the initiative of Okyeame Appiah Dwomo of Asamang-Tamfoe. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency(GNA) after the exercise, Okyeame Dwomo explained that the exercise had become necessary following complaints from the people in the area of recent upsurge in eye diseases suspected to be river blindness since they live within the river Tamfoe basin.

The chief of Asamang-Tamfoe, Nana Kwame Koh, 11, who commended the health personnel for their timely visit said the exercise would be a regular affair to save the people from the onset of eye diseases, especially river blindness.
