Takoradi, Nov 19, GNA – Dr Joseph Amoako of the Radioactive Protection Institute at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission has said emissions from radio signals from telecommunication masts are minimal and safe. He said radio signals could not cause measles, malaria and headaches among other diseases as purported by some sections of the public. “Safety factors are incorporated into the manufacturing of such masts and other electromagnetic fields to arrive at a recommended exposure level”, Dr Amoako told the GNA in an interview.
This was at a workshop on Electromagnetic Fields Exposure and Health organized by the Ministry of Communications and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication at Takoradi. He said research into radio signals from mobile phone base stations in Ghana had recorded low levels of emissions. Dr Amoako called for strict enforcement of the approved regulations and regular monitoring of base stations.
