Expect more ‘fire’ – Ako Gunn

One of the three Montie FM ex-convicts, Godwin Ako Gunn, has indicated that Ghanaians should expect more political “fire” from him from now until the December 7 elections following his release from jail.

According to him, “For the love of the National Democratic Congress, some three people went there (Nsawam Prisons), they came back stronger, and we set a record. … From Monday, you will hear from us and we are back – more fire, more Gumbe!”

He made these remarks while addressing supporters of the governing party at Winneba in the Central Region on Friday September 9, 2016.

Mr Gunn, Salifu Maase, and Alistair Tairo Nelson had the remainder of their four-month jail term remitted by President John Mahama on Monday August 22 after having served for a month. They were sentenced by the Supreme Court for contempt.

The remission was granted after a petition signed by top government officials and NDC functionaries was presented to the president.

Mr Gunn rejected talk by some opposition party members that the Montie Three, as they came to be known, never spent time in prison but were having fun away from the correctional facility.

According to him, the acceptance by Ghana of two Guantanamo Bay ex-prisoners and their release was a clear indication of the president’s compassionate nature, which should not be overlooked.

On behalf of the others who were incarcerated, he thanked Ghanaians and NDC members who showed support through the period of their trial and imprisonment.

For him, the support from the NDC showed that the party was one he felt proud to belong to. “The vision of Mr Mahama should be supported since he has the interest of Ghanaians at heart.”

He urged members of the NDC to not be “shaken” while calling on the electorate to give the president the mandate for a second term on December 7.
