A sod-cutting ceremony for the commencement of work on a 30-bed ward and theatre has been performed at Kordiabe in the Dangbe West District in the Greater Accra Region.
The facility will augment existing facilities at the St Andrew Catholic Clinic and consequently increase access to quality health care in the area.
Upon completion, the GH¢ 1.1 million facility would improve healthcare delivery for the people in the community and its surrounding environment.
The project was initiated by the Christ the King Parish and the construction will be done by PW Ghana Limited. Work will begin after the Easter holidays and it is expected to be completed in March 2016.
The Parish Priest of the Christ the King Catholic Church, Rev. Fr Andrew Campbell, stated that the church was concerned about every aspect of human life and that of the people in the community.
According to him, the facility would also have a laboratory, pharmacy and staff accommodation to help the health professionals to quickly attend to patients in case of any emergency.
Rev. Fr Campbell said it was the decision of the church to provide healthcare services to the people in the community as well as members from neighbouring communities.
He appealed to the chief and other members of the community to help prevent any encroachment on the land and also support in the construction of the clinic.
The Director of Makyoung Limited, Dr Henry Benyah, thanked the people of Kordiabe and the chief for not hesitating to release the land for the project.
He, therefore, called on other corporate bodies to provide support to the less-privileged communities, particularly in the area of health.
The Chief Executive Officer of PW Ghana, Mr Tony O’neal, pledged his company’s support for the construction of the health facility.
“We will do our best to complete the facility ahead of schedule since every country’s success depends largely on the health of its people.”
The Manklalo for the Mle Lekpeje Division of the Shai Traditional Council, Nene Narteh Wayo III, commended Rev. Fr Campbell for his support to the community.
“The council will keep an eye on the land to prevent any encroachment,” he added.
