Exercise Tiger’s path 2009 opens at Akim Kokoben

Akim Kokoben, July 3, GNA – The Commandant of the Ghana Military Academy and Training School (MATS), Real Admiral Mohammed Munir Tahiru, on Friday opened a five day biennial military exercise called “Tiger’s Path 2009” at Akim Kokoben near Akim Oda. The training, which is the ninth edition is being held at the Oboyoh forest within Birim South District and Birim Central Municipality.

Personnel taking part in the exercise are drawn from the Ghana Army, Ghana Navy, Ghana Air Force, Ghana Police Service and a four- member army observer team from Burkina Faso. Addressing the participants, Real Admiral Tahiru pointed out that the exercise was intended to shape the skills of the security personnel in internal security and counter insurgency, to be able to deal effectively with situations that could disturb public peace. “As member of the armed forces, our duty for peace is to gather intelligence, collaborate with the police and other security agencies to maintain law and order to enable the citizenry to discharge their normal duties without fear,” he said.

The Commandant said in view of the lessons learnt from sister African countries, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) had consistently trained its personnel with the needed skills to help combat any “nasty eventuality”.

Real Admiral Tahiru remarked that Exercise Tiger is a tri- service, country insurgency and jungle warfare exercise, organised on competitive basis annually by the GAF and hosted by the Jungle War Fare school at Achaise.

He urged the participants to conduct themselves in the true spirit of professionalism, guided by the virtue of patriotism, loyalty and integrity in order to learn and utilize the skills they would gain.
