British paratroopers on Friday exhibited tandem parachuting to their Ghanaian colleagues to climax a four-day joint military exercise between the Ghana Armed Forces and the British Army Special Forces in Tamale.
Tandem parachuting, which was being seen by many Ghanaian soldiers for the first time, involves the use of one parachute by two people from 12,000 feet above sea level.
A total of 60 Ghanaian and 150 British soldiers took part in the exercise code named “Striking BOA” involving jungle, river and parachuting training.
The Acting Commanding Officer of the Ghana Airborne Force, Major Ink Aryeetey said the exercise was to sharpen the skills of the soldiers of the two countries.
He said the troops observed each other’s techniques and used British-made parachutes, which were different from the ones used by the Ghana Army.
They also jumped from the British C130 Aircraft as against the F28 by the Ghana Army.
The General Officer Commanding, Northern Command, Brigadier George Aryiku and the British High Commissioner, Dr Rod Pollen later presented wing badges to the troops.
