Execute projects to the satisfaction of Ghanaians – JAK

Agona-Asafo (C/R), Sept. 8, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor on Saturday called on Contractors to execute projects to the satisfaction of Ghanaians and to ensure that they got value for money.

President Kufuor, who was addressing a durbar of the Chiefs and people of Agona-Asafo to climax their annual Akwanbo festival at Agona Asafo in the Central Region, said some Contractors did shoddy work to the detriment of the national economy.

He announced that the three-kilometre Agona-Asafo Township roads had been awarded on contract and the Contractor was expected to move to the site by the end of September 2007.

President Kufuor urged the youth in the area to take advantage of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) or go in for loans to undertake commercial farming to reduce poverty, which he said was the common enemy of Ghanaians, and appealed to the Chiefs and landowners to offer them land.

He asked the Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur and the Agona District Chief Executive, Mr Ben Mensah to liaise with the Electricity Corporation of Ghana to upgrade the transformer in the Township to curtail the problem of low voltage there. Nana Yamfo Nsuako V, Chief of Agona Asafo, appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority to construct speed ramps in the Township to stop the rampant knocking down of pedestrians by speeding vehicles.

He commended the Government for constructing a school block in the town to commemorate the 50th Independence anniversary.

Earlier, the agility of President Kufuor was put to the test when he quickly got up as the dais, on which he was seated, caved in. He escaped unhurt.
