EXCESS USE OF PESTICIDES ON OUR FARMS CAN LEAD TO SEVERE HUMAN HEALTH RISK – PROF. STEPHEN

Professor Stephen Larbi Koranteng HOD dept of crop and soil sciences and a plant pathologist AMMUSTED, has called on farmers to reduce the excess use of pesticides on their farms.

During an interview with Omanhene Adu Brempong on Jingle Sunrise, Prof. Larbi stated it clearly that, excess use of pesticides on our farms has the consiquencies of contaminating the environment. Pesticides can pollute soil,air ,water bodies, wildlife and the ecosystem and can lead to pests resistance.

In addition, too much exposure to pesticides by humans can cause cancer, reproductive problems and many more.

He called on the general public to be aware that,”not only the farmer who suffers from such chemicals, but everyone, therefore from the farmer – buyer and the consumer.

He therefore urged farmers to be vigilant on the kind of pesticides they use.
