Ex-worker kills watchman

Sunyani, Jan 5, GNA – The police in Sunyani have nabbed a 30- year-old driver, Yaw Akotega, for allegedly killing a 37-year-old watchman at Nsoatre, near Sunyani.

Chief Inspector Christian Yohuno, Sunyani Municipal Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that Akotega went to the shop at midnight of December 26, last year where the watchman was, ostensibly to steal. Akotega slashed the deceased several times with a cutlass, killing him instantly after which he entered the shop and made away with an undisclosed sum of money and provisions.

The Police Commander said the owner of the shop, Mr. Kwame Charles, came to the shop in the morning to find the watchman dead in a pool of blood.

The shop owner suspected Akotega, a worker at the shop who was sacked for his constant stealing of items from the shop, and reported the incident to the police.

The suspect was not seen again until January 2 when he was arrested at Nsoatre and admitted the offence.
