Ex-NMP workers urge govt to reconsider decision

Sekondi, Aug 15, GNA- Former staff of the defunct National Mobilisation Programme (NMP) in the Western Region, have appealed to the government to re-consider its decision to pay ex-workers of the NMP two months salary as ex-gratia award.

A statement issued on Thursday and signed by Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, ex-Western Regional Director, called on the government to meet the affected workers and find an amicable solution to the issue. They said they have rendered 18 years of dedicated service to the state and appealed to the government to address the issue of payment of their End of Service benefits.

The workers said their statement was in reaction to a radio announcement purported to have been released from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) headquarters asking all ex-staff of the NMP to submit their pay slips for the processing and payment of their benefits.

They said the two months salary as the benefits is contrary to the labour law that states that in the absence of a collective bargaining agreement, the employer should negotiate with the employees for an acceptable amount to be paid.

The ex-staff said they would reject the two months salary the government intends to pay to them and called on all the affected workers to come together to fight for their rights. the statement said.
