Ex-Mayor: Kumasi misunderstood my sanitation drive

Former Kumasi Mayor Patricia Appiagyei has said the people of the metropolitan city and capital of the Ashanti region, misunderstood her sanitation agenda during her tenure.

The Asokwa MP told Ultimate Breakfast Show host Prince Minkah in an interview on Friday January 23, 2015 that her agenda to get rid of filth in the city and bring some orderliness there during her tenure as Mayor under President John Kufuor was not appreciated by the people of Kumasi.

She believes the current monthly national sanitation day clean-up exercise introduced by the Mahama administration vindicates her earlier plan to sanitise Kumasi. According to her, the City is saddled with poor waste management, indiscipline, disregard for traffic regulations among others.

“Our biggest challenge now is with waste management…currently everything is [chaotic] in Kejetia, everything is in disarray,” she told Prince Minkah.

The Asokwa legislator said she is convinced that residents are now waking up to the reality of her dreams.

“We need to be law-abiding, we need to know that the city we live in is our own. Leaders need to look at the right priorities to develop Kumasi”.
