The Akim Swedru Circuit Court in the Birim South District, has sentenced Kofi Acquah, a carpenter, to 24 months imprisonment in hard labour for robbing his ex-wife.
Acquah, who reportedly sneaked into the ex-wife’s room and made away with her personal belongings valued at GH¢300, pleaded guilty to unlawful entry, contrary to Section 152 of Act 29/60.
Police Detective Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the court presided over by Mr. Yaw Atta Sampong that the complainant, Madam Patience Bawa, is a trader whereas the accused is a carpenter, with both of them living at Akim Oda Old Town.
He said on January 5, Madam Bawa locked her room and left home to visit her sister at Akim Oda Quarters but when she returned at about 2300 hours, she found that the room had been broken into and her property stolen.
These include two plastic chairs, six curtains, two bedspreads, one double bed and three lady’s bags containing dresses.
Inspector Appiah stated that Acquah, who was being prosecuted for different charges at the same court, was re-arrested and in his caution statement admitted the offence.**
