Ex-Finance Minister Holds Discussions With Gov’t Officials

Former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwesi Botchway has been discussing Ghana’s economic future with government officials in Accra. Dr. Botchway was Finance Minister for about ten years under former President Rawlings. He is now an Economics Lecturer at the prestigious Harvard University in the United States.

His discussions with Vice President Aliu Mahama and Finance Minister, Yaw Osafo-Marfo centred on policies to attract foreign direct investment into Ghana. Dr. Botchway also presented a report on a study he conducted with other economic experts. The report recommends an increase in funds for poor countries to finance their health budget.

Dr. Botchway, who is also vying for the Vice-Chancellorship of the University of Ghana, said he has suggested Ghana as a model for such assistance.

Mr. Osafo-Marfo reiterated the need for Ghana to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to facilitate the elimination of poverty. He also appealed to Dr Botchwey and his team to help promote Ghana as a favourable investment destination.
