Ex-cop arrested over recruitment scam

MarkAwatey, an ex-police officer believed to have been dismissed from the Service, is currently in the web of the police at Suhum in the Eastern Region.

The suspect – his alleged accomplice said to be at large – was apprehended for allegedly defrauding over 15 persons an amount of GH¢31,390 under the pretext of enlisting them into the Police Service.

Chief Supt. Joseph K. Owusu, Suhum District Police Commander, who briefed DAILY GUIDE on the purported fraud, said the suspects, who live at Suhum, between the months of August and September, 2015, persuaded the victims that they would recruit them into the Police Service.

The commander indicated that after managing to convince their victims and taken huge sums of money together with their particulars from them, Mark Awatey and his accomplice bolted. He said the victims, after fruitless search for the fraudsters, reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of Awatery.

He is expected to appear before court on 12th October, 2017.
