Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Sept. 7, GNA – Amadu Abdulai, an ex-convict and a farmer at Bedibenum near Dormaa-Ahenkro has been jailed for five years by the Dormaa circuit court for stealing cassava.
Abdulai who had served 15 months in jail earlier for stealing a ghetto black star pleaded guilty to stealing the cassava from the farm of one Bra Kwame, a poultry and cassava farmer at Dormaa-Ahenkro. Giving the facts to the court, presided over by Mr. Justice P.K. Richardson, Detective Sergeant Charles Agovi said, ever since Abdulai returned from prison some eight months ago, farmers in and around Bedibenum had experienced regular loss of foodstuffs from their farms. He said the theft normally occurred on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays when the victims were either in church or observing their taboo. The prosecution said on Sunday, August 27 2006, Bra Kwame had a tip-off that Abdulai had loaded a Tico taxicab full of cassava and was leading for Berekum.
He said Police at the Dormaa-Ahenkro barrier were alerted and the taxicab arrested with Abdulai on board.
According to the prosecution, the ex-convict upon interrogation admitted having orchestrated some of the alleged theft of food items from the farms in the area.
