Ex-convict arrested by market women for stealing a sheep

Akatsi, March 20, GNA – Evans Kwaku, 30, an ex-convict from Sogakope in the South-Tongu District was last Thursday arrested by market women at the Akatsi market with a sheep suspected to have been stolen. A Police handcuff and a locally made pistol were also found on him.

An eyewitness told the Ghana News Agency at Akatsi that the suspect joined an Akatsi bound vehicle on Thursday morning from Sogakope and in the middle of the journey asked the driver to stop for him to pick a luggage. Kwaku returned with a sheep from the bush shortly afterwards, raising the suspicion of traders on the vehicle some of whom knew his track record.

On arrival at the market in Akatsi the traders handed him over to the police. Police sources at Akatsi confirmed the story and said Kwaku claimed he found the handcuff in the Volta Lake near the bridge at Sogakope. He also told the police that the pistol was given to him by a friend to sell in Lome, Togo.
