Ewe community commend Minister and Police Command

Kumasi, Aug 17, GNA – The chief, elders and entire Ewe community in Kumasi, have lauded the positive role played by the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Regional Police command in ensuring peace following the sudden death of eight members of the community at Tabeso in the Amansie East District of Ashanti last month.

Togbe S.K. Fugah, Chief of the Ewe community in Kumasi who made the commendation, observed that since the tragedy hit the Numenya family, resulting in the demise of the eight people, the Minister and Police Commander had been helping in the transportation and arrangement for the post-mortem and preservation of the bodies at the Bekwai Government hospital morgue.

Togbe Fugah was speaking when a five-member delegation from the Numenya family, led by Mr Francis Numenya, called on the Council of Elders of the Ewe community in Kumasi on Wednesday to officially inform them of burial arrangements for the deceased.

The eight were alleged to have died through food poisoning. “Without the intervention of the Regional Minister and the Police Commander, it would have been a difficult task for us to handle such a Herculean task all by ourselves”, he added.

Mr Numenya told the council of elders that arrangements were being to convey the corpses from Bekwai to Dabala near Sogakope in the Volta Region on September 2 for burial.

It would be recalled that about a month ago, the said eight persons belonging to the same family died through food poisoning by eating a ‘kokonte’ (dried cassava powder) suspected to have been poisoned.
