Every Ghanaian has right to rule the country – MP

Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman has said the perception of some Ghanaians that they have been ordained to rule the country does not promote democratic governance.

Mr Quansah said the decision of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs not to have anything to do with President John Dramani Mahama’s programme was a dangerous decision whose repercussions would affect their constituents more than they the MPs.

” What happens if the President decides not to do anything with them? After all who controls the majority in Parliament?”, Mr Quansah asked.

He said the argument of the NPP MPs that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) did the same thing when they were in opposition did not hold water, since the NDC members did not walk out because of the then President.

He said the NDC walked out because of the injustice meted out to two of its members, namely Mr Tsatsu Tsikata and Mr Dan Abodakpi by the Judiciary.

He argued that if the NPP discovered some anomaly in the conduct of the 2012 election, there was no reason for them to hold the President who was also a candidate, responsible. He urged the NPP members to go and vent their anger on the Electoral Commission but not the President.

The MP said the NDC members and some well-meaning citizens of the country had remained silent just because they wanted peace in the country and reminded the NPP that everything had a limit so they should not mistake the silence of the NDC members for weakness.

Mr Quansah appealed to the NPP not to make the 2012 election disintegrate their party and that the NDC needed them in the 2016 election to teach them (NPP), a lesson.
