Even Pampers have taxes on them – Nana Konadu

Founder and flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP) Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has bemoaned the excessive taxation of the Ghanaian economy, saying it is counterproductive.

“No country has ever developed through over taxation.”

The former First Lady expressed this on Wednesday, July 27 when she took the seat for the maiden Conversation of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).

The Conversation has been created for presidential candidates of political parties that do not have representation in parliament.

Nana Konadu said Ghanaians have been shortchanged by the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, saying the past four years have seen a reward of economic hardship.

She said every Ghanaian directly or indirectly is being taxed and that is having a toll on development, particularly the growth of industries.

She said the taxes are even imposed on baby diapers.

“Even a new born baby with the Pampers have taxes on it.”

She said: “I will not sit back and do nothing while the gap between the rich and poor grows wider”.
