“Even John Mahama cannot make me pay” -MCE to contractor

Some concerned residents of the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipality as well as workers of the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipal Assembly are calling for an inquiry into the activities of the Municipal Chief Executive for Ejisu Juabeng, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh.
They say they are alarmed at the MCE’s handling of contracts at the Assembly.
rawgist.com sources reveal several court cases hanging around the neck of the Assembly as a result of the MCE’s omissions and/or commissions.
One such case as rawgist.com found out is that of M/S Sorima Enterprise Limited; a contractor who was awarded contracts to construct a 16-seater water closet toilet at Bomfa Achiase as well as a borehole project. The contract, a District Development Facility Project, according to documents seen by rawgist.com was worth sixty-Nine Thousand, Six Hundred and thirty two cedis, Eighty Pesewas (GHC 69,632.86).
rawgist.com found out that the MCE, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh took 10% off the mobilisation payment; an amount of approximately GHC 6,000.00, leaving a paltry GHC4,000.00 for the contractor, and then refused to pay the rest after the job was done to an appreciable level.
“He insults contractors who come to demand their pay and finally unilaterally terminates the contracts” as in the case of M/S Sorima Enterprise Limited, a source at the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipal Assembly disclosed to rawgist.com.
In the case of M/S Sorima Enterprise Limited, the MCE is reported to have stated that he “won’t pay the contractor even if John Mahama orders me to”. True to his words, he has remained adamant despite several interventions including the intervention of some legal practitioners.
It is alleged several contractors have been paid several thousands of Cedis in mobilisation fees even though they are yet to do any work at all. In all, the MCE has duly taken “his 10%”.
any who have fed rawgist.com information from the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipal Assembly believe it is high time the President investigated activities there.
