Accra, Sept 5, GNA – Dr Lawrence Tetteh, a renowned Evangelist on Friday said Election 2008 would be a test of Ghana’s political maturity and cautioned against any attempt to dent the image of the country. “Recent events in Kenya and Zimbabwe have heightened attention on our upcoming elections and people are asking whether Ghana, long regarded as a torchbearer for Africa can once again show the way”, he added.
Dr Tetteh in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said, “there was the need to guard against politics of divisiveness and rather examine our roles in terms of values that underpin the nation’s dream of a free people prospering on their own land. “We must remember our biding national obligation and not to use the election as an excuse to sow divisions in our society, a house divided against itself shall not prevail.” He said the biggest challenge for the nation was electing a righteous leader to manage the affairs of the nation, “when the righteous are in authority the people rejoice: but when the wicked rule, they mourn”.
Dr Tetteh added, “My admonition to the electorate and those seeking political office is that leadership is ordained by God and is only when we pray that we can succeed in every endeavour”.
