European Institutions Awards Takoradi Polytechnic

Rev Prof Daniel Adjepong Nyarko, the Rector of Takoradi Polytechnic received two awards on behalf of his institution and for himself. The rector was presented with The Best Manager award by the Oxford based Europe Business Assembly (EBA) on 17th December 2013.

The award is issued to global businesses and academic leaders each year for their contribution towards their respective fields of endeavour.

This year’s ceremony took place right in the centre of the world’s scientific community which is the historic city of Oxford, UK. The Socrates committee of the EBA also recognised the contributions of Takoradi Polytechnic to the academic community with the Best Regional University award at the same event.

According to the polytechnic’s own website, the European Society for Quality Research (ESQR) on the 8th of December 2013, also acknowledged the polytechnic with the Best Quality Management Practices medal in Vienna, Austria.

The recognition of such global awards implies that Ghana’s technical education system is becoming acceptable within the global learning community. These achievements have a great potential of attracting more students from both inside and outside Ghana to pursue technical qualifications in the West African state.

It is worth noting that, during the last elections, the current government realised the opportunities in advancing technical education and pledged to upgrade Ghana’s polytechnic education system to become more competitive by granting the institutions full autonomy to run advanced courses and also provide qualifications essential for Ghana’s economic advantage.
